Yesterday we installed one of two bush bee hives at our Skuthorpe nursery. This a part of our research and development into increasing pollination and to increase fruit yields. The second part of the R&D program is to look at hand or manual pollination which can be done in several different ways. Thanks to Paul Saeki of the Indigenous Land & Sea Corporation for funding a bush bee workshop and for providing two bush bee hives for our gubinge plantation. Thanks to Alan Pigram for running the workshops and thanks for imparting all that knowledge about caring for the bees and also how to make new hives. ... The final property managed by Mamabulanjin, this drone shot shows our fruit farm compound looking south, then the drone pans to the west looking over our first 100m x 500m plantation strip with Coconut Wells in the back ground. The cleared area is the last of (6) 50m x50m trial plots funded under Allana McTiernans Office through Regional Economic Development funding Program administered by DPI&RD and the Kimberley Development Commssion. All approvals and clearances are now in place, with the Broome Shire issueing a building permit to install/ construct all start up infrastructure. Thanks again to the Kimberley Granst Scheme (and the Water Corporation) for their $10,000 funding for our unisex ablutions; a converted sea container is now ready for commissioning.Carey Training has just started their practical Civil Construction Certificate III on the ne fruit farm site and is due to finish in November. ... Yet another drone video, this time of our native tree nursery and gubinge orchard. The drone flies from north east to south west towards Broome over our nursery, and first you see our ablutions, mini office, large shed, then power house with solar array, then our green house (in white), our nursery then a fly over of the gubinge orchard! Not too bad for 6 years worth of development and the operation of a native tree nursery. We will commnce bush bee hive installation towards the end of this year which we hope to increase the pollenation event and therefore achieve more fruit! We will also be looking at hand pollentation to increase yields. The other research and development project we have is to determine the three or four different species of gubinge in the Broome area. To do this we will look for key DNA markers to determine T.ferdinandiana, T.ferndinandiana petolaris cross, (hopefully)T.latipes, (?)T.hadleyana, (?)T.Carpentariae at our Skuthorpe gubinge orchard where we have 1,000+ trees.Plese note we grow to order. If you're a garden landscaper who is tendering on supply native contracts, come in and see us early, we can just about cover most native tree orders with 6 months notice. We can also do none native species that most Broome residents have. ...
